Toward Healthy Aging in Adults with Autism

This study is part of the Autism Centers of Excellence (ACE) program.

We are now recruiting autistic and non-autistic adults, age 20+ to participate in our research study on aging in autism. Please see our study flyer for more information. If you have questions, or would like to participate, please contact us at one of the study sites listed below.

What is the ACE program?

The Autism Centers of Excellence (ACE) program, led by the National Institutes of Health, supports large-scale studies on autism spectrum disorders. Awards are granted every five years to ACE research centers and networks. In 2022, the NIH awarded funding to nine ACE centers and networks, including the ISLA-A network.

Our ACE project - Toward Healthy Aging in Adults with Autism: A Longitudinal Clinical and Multimodal Brain Imaging Study

The Toward Healthy Aging in Autism study will investigate differences in health, aging and well-being during adulthood in autistic and neurotypical adults. Aging – growing older – is something we all do. It is important to understand what makes staying healthy when growing older possible for some adults and difficult for other adults. The current study will track physical and mental health, functioning, cognitive ability, and brain structure/function of participants over time. We hope that understanding differences in aging will help improve long-term health and well-being of autistic and other adults.
